Hurley-Byrd and Innovations
You Can Only Build the Best if You Use the Best Materials and Innovations
From day one we sought out the finest materials and used them in such a way to
produce the finest feeders in the country. It's the materials we use and the
way we use them that separates us from all the others.
Solid Brass and Ceramic Coated Steel Screws:
Beauty, strength and excellent corrosion resistance. - Made to last for years.
The Hurley-Byrd Bird Feeder Co. uses fine quality materials and sound craftsmanship to produce excellent quality feeders for you and your loved ones. Below we show you a few of the components and procedures we use in crafting your feeders.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Thank you,
The Hurley-Byrd Bird Feeder Co.
Solid Brass or Brass Plated Hinges and Hardware:
Brass hardware is just plain beautiful but also lasts for years.
Acrylic Sheeting:
We use several different thickness of acrylic to suit the feeder. Thinner acrylics are used for finch feeders allowing your finches to feed easier. Thick acrylics are used on large feeders retaining a lot of feed so it doesn't bow out and distort.
Pre Drilled Screw Holes:
Nearly every screw hole in your new feeder has been predrilled. Predrilling allows our screws to penetrate correctly and hold strong. The need to predrill screw holes is the reason all other companies use staples and brads. It allows unskilled workers the ability to assemble their products plus a staple is a LOT cheaper than a screw.
Brads, staples and nails simply do not have the holding ability of a good quality screw.
It's what separates Hurley-Byrd from ALL others.
Integrated Hanging Ropes:
In order to enhance our beautiful designs, we developed a better means of
attaching our hanging ropes which both hides the rope and diverts rain water away
from seed hoppers. As you can see from the photo below of a Finch Feeder, we have bored a
hole in the vertical sides and injected the rope into it. This is now secured with a brass screw
through the wood into the rope and back through the wood. Is it strong? Absolutely!
We tested this on a single rope installed in a single piece of wood and hung
over 80 pounds from the assembly without it coming apart or distorting.
We've been building our feeders this way for 10 years with ZERO complaints.
360 Degree Feeding Platforms:
One of the most annoying aspects in bird feeders sold today is that
your birds can only feed from the long edges of the feeder. If you have one of these two sided feeder, you can only enjoy your birds half of the time. Hurley-Byrd's 360 Degree Feeding Platforms provide 120% more viewing area. The ends of every hopper feeder we craft
contains a seed port which flows seed to the extended platform at each end of the feeder. Hence, 360 degrees of bird feeding area and 120% MORE viewing for your enjoyment.
You will also find your small birds can now "sneak" into the feeder's ends for a quick seed even when the more aggressive birds are dominating the feeder.
This is what Hurley-Byrd quality is all about.
Drainage Slots:
It's absolutely imperative your feeder has positive water drainage.
Wet seed quickly molds, your birds won't eat it and you'll throw it away. Money wasted
Every feeder we craft has positive water drainage designed into in some way. The picture
above shows a Mourning Dove Feeder and it's cut corner water drainage design.
This is our typical drainage slot design and is very simple yet extremely effective.
Melting snow, pouring rain, etc. will quickly flow from the corner slots. Some
things cannot be improved and why our traditional designs continue
to outperform any marketing gadget offered elsewhere.
